These works reference the window structures of both Melbourne’s Nicholas Building and the Gallery situated within. I have used pin-hole photography to capture images of the windows from the interior and exterior. The paintings are based on these photographs in various ways, the red monochrome referencing the safe light used in the dark room and hence the photographic process. The stretchers constructed to make these paintings mimic the exact size of the windows which are architectural features of a certain time and place. Their transformation into art works introduces ideas about the relationship between photography and painting, about layering, transparency and permeability, interior and exterior, space and time, mirror and reflection.
